I am a Canadian-trained educator, specialising in the Early Years and Kindergarten to Grade 6. I hold a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Global Development and History, as well as a Bachelor of Education from Queen's University. I also hold a Certificate in Educating Young Children from the University of British Columbia.
Recently, my family relocated back to Canada after many years overseas. I am currently on maternity leave with my first child. Most recently, I was living and working in Singapore teaching Kindergarten 1 (four to five year olds) and serving as the Early Years Coordinator. I enjoy working with other educators to evolve and deepen our understandings about young children’s learning and have led many workshops and speaking engagements on topics related to Early Childhood Education. In 2016, I became an International Baccalaureate Workshop Leader and School Visit Team Member. In 2017, I became an IB Online Workshop Facilitator. I have also worked in Milan, Italy and Kingston, Canada. The majority of my teaching has been in International Baccalaureate Primary Years' Programme schools, though I also have experience with other curriculums and approaches including the British Columbia and Ontario provincial curriculums, Waldorf (Steiner) education, Montessori, and the Reggio Emilia approach. My educational interests include visible thinking practices, the physical learning environment, emergent (negotiated) curriculum, arts-integration, technology-integration, play-based learning, environmental education, and pedagogical documentation. I am a passionate traveler and have loved the experience of working internationally. I feel very lucky to have encountered so many different perspectives and approaches through my work. I hope to continue connecting, extending, and challenging my ideas through this blog, which reflects my ongoing thinking and dialogue about education. |
